The Future of

Arena Fiber

“Equestrian Wool Arena develops sustainable,
biodegradable riding surfaces made from wool."

New construction off fiber sand with microplastic fiber
banned in the EU
by 2031.

Today’s conventional fiber sand often contains microplastics and harmful synthetic materials, which pose serious risks to both the environment and human health. These materials are already under regulatory scrutiny and will be banned by 2031 under upcoming EU legislation.

Equestrian Wool Arena – EWA, is developing a sustainable, high-performance fiber sand surface for equestrian sports – ideal for both show jumping and dressage.

WOOL IS THE SECRET SOLUTION.

EWA has developed a specialized 100% wool fiber that makes sand elastic, improving performance, stability, and comfort for the horse.

The fiber is fully biodegradable, adds natural nutrients back to the soil, and makes use of a wool by-product that would otherwise go to waste.

TESTS IN SAND.

With support from Axfoundation, Lars Roepstorff, professor at SLU, has tested EWA's wool fiber in different rounds. EWA has developed a fiber in several different forms, with varying wool fiber and different recipes for how the material should be processed in a machine.

WHAT'S NEXT?

EWA iNSTALLS  riding arenas FOR LARGE-SCALE TESTS  in partnership with Trädgårdsteknik, a professional arena construction company.

Systematic testing will be conducted in collaboration with Lars and his mechanical hoof to ensure objective performance evaluation. Parallel to this, EWA will continue the necessary product development to further optimize performance and long-term sustainability.

“We are collaborating with EWA because their focus on sustainable, organic fibers is in line with our ambition to drive innovation and sustainable development. For us, it is important to work with partners who drive material development forward.

Together with EWA, we want to reduce the industry’s environmental impact and create future solutions today.”

HENRIK BORGSTRÖM, Trädgårdstkenik

 INVESTORS

EWA is backed by Uppsala University Invest and SLU Holding, two university-affiliated investment companies in Sweden focused on commercializing research and supporting sustainable, science-based innovations.

Their support strengthens EWA’s foundation in research, sustainability, and long-term growth.
